WEEK 13

This week was amazing!!! General conference was the cherry on top. Aaaaand KNOXVILLE IS GETTING A TEMPLE!!!!!!! We were watching conference at a members house when they announced it and Sister Christensen and I jumped up and started cheering. The members we were with started crying and cheering. The people here in Knoxville area have been praying for years to get a temple. It has been a normal part of the prayers, asking for a temple. And it worked!!!!! We saw the property it is going to be built on too, and it is going to be beautiful. Sister Christensen is going home next week, and I'll be home by the time this temple is completed, but we said that we will come back for the temple open house! Maybe we can have a mission reunion for the open house haha that would be so much fun! It was such a cool experience to see the excitement of the members when they announced the temple. I miss going to the temple so much. I'm a missionary dedicating 24 hours a day to the lord, 7 days a week, but I still really miss going to the temple. The temple is the closest to heaven you can get on the this earth, and the promises you make in the temple with God are WORTH IT. If my entire life got flipped upside down and I lost everything, I would still have real joy because those promises I made with god are still there and in the next life, those promises and my diligence to keep those promises is ALL that will matter. Assess your life. If all your possessions, belongings, career, and all you have got taken away from you, what would you have left? Would you still have peace in christ? Would you still have happiness in knowing that you kept your promises with god, and in return he keeps his promises with you? General conference talked a lot about staying on the covenant path. What does that mean to you? Staying on the covenant path is what success really is. The world defines success MUCH differently, but who are we trying to please? God? Or society? Don't let the world around change your perspective of life. Remember the plan of salvation and what the goal really is, and I can promise you that every right decision you make in this life will bless you so much in the next life. Future you will be thanking the current you for doing what's right. Where to start? Read the book of mormon. Meet with missionaries if you aren't already baptized. Go make covenants at the holy temple. Keep the commandments. God isn't complicated, he'll direct you if you ask what to do next:)
Ok, that was a lot, but that has been on my mind a lot. My week was fun! After conference we went and visited some people. We went to a recovery home (we thought it was a regular home, but it wasnt) and there were like 6 girls standing outside smoking, vaping, and talking. We decided to go up and talk to them and they were all so cool! We asked if we could share a message with them, and I got to teach all these girls about the restoration. They actually enjoyed it, and they asked  "well, can I have a mormon bible?" So we ram back to the car and gave them like 5 book of Mormons. It was so cool. It was a recovery home for girls off the streets, so they are all looking to change their lives. One of the girl's names was Chloe Jo, she was probably 17 (the youngest of them all. They were all probably in their 20s) and she was so nice and interested in learning more. I'm excited to go back!
We have been meeting with our friend named Chris a lot, and he is being baptized this weekend!! He has progressed a lot, and when we taught him the commandments, he agreed to do everything he could to follow God. I'll be sure to take pictures at the baptism, because it is going to be awesome!

I love Sister Christensen so much, I'm gonna be genuinely so sad when she leaves next week. We have had so much fun together and we laugh and smile a lot. We find little ways to make missionary work fun, and it makes such a big difference!
I don't have much else to say, but I do want to say to anyone who hasn't gotten the chance to listen to general conference, go watch it!! Listen to it while to drive or something because trust me, you do not want to miss out on this.

Week 40

Not a lot happened this week, but it was supposed to be transfers, except for that I'm staying!! Side note, Sister Garbett's new companion (named sister Phillips) is SO awesome!! We actually have a lot in common and we have mutual friends from BYU and high school! Our little sisters are also so similar which is crazy, we both pulled up a picture and their outfits were almost the same hahaha.  But anyways, here are some cool things that I learned this week: --> Always always always follow promptings (if it's a good prompting, cuz if it's good, it's from God). Promptings are gateways for God to work miracles in our lives, but we have to act first. I'm still working on that, but I've seen it give me so much more confidence in the work I'm doing cuz I know that I'm not doing it alone:) --> Make friends and don't be afraid to share the gospel. When friendship comes first, sharing the gospel is a lot easier. That's one downfall with missionar...

Week 66

Hello everyone!! Happy late Easter! I hope everyone had an amazing Sunday, cuz I sure did!! Holidays on the mission are a little hard (for me at least), but this one was actually pretty good! The church service was amazing and it was PACKED. I felt like I was back in a Utah ward because there were so many people! Here are some reasons it was a great easter: Some friends we are teaching came to church! Donna who is a somewhat lonely older lady came and wore one of sister chan's dresses and she cried during the service and even sang one of the songs, which was huge. Donna is going through a lot right now, but I think she felt a moment of peace when she was at church.  Afterwards we went to the Gildays (a member that I'm close with ) to have lunch and a little scripture study. Isabel was there and that was fun hehe her and I are crazy. I don't know if I've "introduced" Isabel, but she is 19 and was just baptized in January. She moved here and almost i...

Week 74

Alrighty, here I am again. This was MIRACLE filled week. It had its ups and downs, but I'm going to focus on the ups! So first of all, the big miracle is James!!! This has got to be the most prepared person I have ever met on my entire mission! Not an exaggeration! I can't remember exactly what I've said about him in the past, so here's a little summary. We were walking around a neighborhood last Sunday after church and we decided to knock his door. He was really nice, so we came back on Tuesday to do a Bible study. Then we lost contact with him for the rest of the week. BUT he showed up to church on Sunday!!! We were so shocked!! Then he came to church AGAIN and he had read all the way up to Jacob, and he knew everything about the saints leaving to Utah, their history, everything about Joseph Smith and Emma Smith, and a bunch of other random facts! He said he knew Joseph Smith was called of God and he never wanted to stop coming to our church because he said it feels ...
