Week 17

This has actually been a pretty awesome week! Miracles have definitely happened. One of the things that was the highlight, was that we were able to get our friend Claire on date to be baptized! Claire is the sweetest human ever. She is from the phillipines and was super curious about our church after the missionaries accidentally called her when they were given the wrong number by someone else. It has been so cool teaching her because when we first started teaching her, you could tell that there was a lot of confusion in her life and she was missing something. The more we taught her about the restored gospel, the more she got curious and excited to learn more. It was SO cool to witness that! She is doing so much studying on her own, and that has made her progression so much quicker. I love her soooo much!!

On the flip side, I got so so so sick on tuesday and wednesday. Tuesday it was bad, I was struggling to breath on the couch during a zoom and I felt like garbage, so my comps said i could go lay down. I ended up sleeping for 2 hours and when I woke up I didn't feel tons better, so we stayed in the apartment for the rest of the day. It was miserable, but I'm feeling better now!

We had dinner on friday at a members house, and she made me a meal from home!! She had messaged my mom asking what my favorite meal was, and she made it for me! It was so sweet of her and I definitely felt right at home during that dinner!

Quick little story: We have to pass an alley to get from the institute building to the parking garage, and we were walking out when it was dark and there was a pretty sketchy guy in the alley that started speed walking to us, and talking very loudly about how it is rude to ignore people. Sister Garbett told us to boogie quickly to the car, so we hurried to the car and drove away fast. I don't know why, but we were just laughing, even though that probably could have ended badly haha, but now we are more cautious with that alley!

This week we have spent so much time with the YSA, and I love it so much. I feel like I have 10 best friends now haha, we are all really close and its fun to joke around with them and feel like a friends, rather than a robot missionary. I'm going to be really sad when I leave this area.

Its also starting to get very hot and very humid.... I dont like it one bit. But hopefully I get used to it (even though every missionary that I talk to says that you'll never get used to it). On the other hand, It is SO green!!! I feel like I'm on an island sometimes cuz the trees grow over the road, and when you look around, everything you see is green. It's crazy. I miss Utah mountains a lot, but this is sooo pretty! Hopefully the green can distract me from how miserable the hot humidity is haha.

My comps and I have had a lot of fun this week! I really like being in a trio! It comes with it's hard parts, but it is fun! Something I am struggling with is feeling bulldozed. I am trying to step up, open my mouth, and lead the area, but I feel like I get pushed to the back seat a lot. My problem is that I don't push back, so I just go with the flow and don't speak up much anymore. So that has been a little bit difficult. But its nothing to complain about!

But I am still loving it here! We went downtown and there were lines of people waiting outside a big theater place, and when I looked at the theater,.... it was a walker hayes concert!!!!!!!!!! My heart actually dropped for a second cuz I wanted to go in soooo bad. Walker Hayes in one of my favorite country singers, and he was there!! In the building right in front of me! I took a picture in front of it hehe. Downtown is so lively and fun, I love it.
But yeah! That was my week! It was a good one, and hopefully this week will be even better!
I hope everyone at home and in mapleton is doing well! (Don't worry, Mapleton is still above knoxville on my list of favorite places:) I love you guys!!

Oh! And I found a four leaf clover which was pretty cool haha

Week 40

Not a lot happened this week, but it was supposed to be transfers, except for that I'm staying!! Side note, Sister Garbett's new companion (named sister Phillips) is SO awesome!! We actually have a lot in common and we have mutual friends from BYU and high school! Our little sisters are also so similar which is crazy, we both pulled up a picture and their outfits were almost the same hahaha.  But anyways, here are some cool things that I learned this week: --> Always always always follow promptings (if it's a good prompting, cuz if it's good, it's from God). Promptings are gateways for God to work miracles in our lives, but we have to act first. I'm still working on that, but I've seen it give me so much more confidence in the work I'm doing cuz I know that I'm not doing it alone:) --> Make friends and don't be afraid to share the gospel. When friendship comes first, sharing the gospel is a lot easier. That's one downfall with missionar...

Week 66

Hello everyone!! Happy late Easter! I hope everyone had an amazing Sunday, cuz I sure did!! Holidays on the mission are a little hard (for me at least), but this one was actually pretty good! The church service was amazing and it was PACKED. I felt like I was back in a Utah ward because there were so many people! Here are some reasons it was a great easter: Some friends we are teaching came to church! Donna who is a somewhat lonely older lady came and wore one of sister chan's dresses and she cried during the service and even sang one of the songs, which was huge. Donna is going through a lot right now, but I think she felt a moment of peace when she was at church.  Afterwards we went to the Gildays (a member that I'm close with ) to have lunch and a little scripture study. Isabel was there and that was fun hehe her and I are crazy. I don't know if I've "introduced" Isabel, but she is 19 and was just baptized in January. She moved here and almost i...

Week 74

Alrighty, here I am again. This was MIRACLE filled week. It had its ups and downs, but I'm going to focus on the ups! So first of all, the big miracle is James!!! This has got to be the most prepared person I have ever met on my entire mission! Not an exaggeration! I can't remember exactly what I've said about him in the past, so here's a little summary. We were walking around a neighborhood last Sunday after church and we decided to knock his door. He was really nice, so we came back on Tuesday to do a Bible study. Then we lost contact with him for the rest of the week. BUT he showed up to church on Sunday!!! We were so shocked!! Then he came to church AGAIN and he had read all the way up to Jacob, and he knew everything about the saints leaving to Utah, their history, everything about Joseph Smith and Emma Smith, and a bunch of other random facts! He said he knew Joseph Smith was called of God and he never wanted to stop coming to our church because he said it feels ...
