Week 56

Week 56
I had a good week this week! We saw so many miracles happen and God was so good to us! We are continuing to find more prepared people! We met Stephen and Tihisha who are so amazing! They are both wanting to turn their lives over to Jesus and find a church that suits them and their family. We are having our first lesson with them on Saturday, so please pray that that will go well and they can feel of the truthfulness. I'm excited for them!
We were also walked in a grocery store and this kid stopped us and asked if we were from Utah haha! He said he just moved here from Idaho and all his friends are members! We gave him our info and hopefully he will reach out!
We had a lesson with some friends and it was interesting. So we walked in and Terry had set up a table with 4 chairs, a notebook, pen, and huge Bible on the table lol. It was an interesting (and long) visit... they asked us how our church is set up, and Pat asked us what we usually teach people when we're trying to convert them lol. Terry said he knows a little about our church. They explained why they believe what they believe and Terry was flipping from Bible verse to Bible verse, not really sure where he was going with it all though. We have a lot of similar beliefs, but one difference is that they don't believe in modern revelation - they believe God only speaks to His children through the Bible, no other way. Imagine if that were true.... After talking with them, I am So grateful for modern revelation. I would be so lost without it. I am so thankful that we have a prophet to clarify doctrine and commandments that way we don't have to guess the "correct interpretation" of the Bible. People can be lost and confused, and all of that confusion is cleared away with revelation! I'm grateful to know that God still speaks to his children today.
We are teaching this old lady named Rachel (the one I took a Pic with) and her eyesight is starting to go away, so she can't read the book of mormon ever. I am convinced that she will accept the gospel so quickly in the next life. She's basically waiting to die any day now and can't remember much of what we teach her. She remembers the feelings she gets, but not the doctrine we teach. She is the sweetest old lady and I don't want to leave her!
On Sunday we attended a baptism for a girl named Destiny. She and her sister (they are both in high school) were being taught together and were SO excited to be baptized together. But tragically, the sister was killed in a car accident last week, so Destiny was baptized by herself. It was a very neat experience, because Destiny is going to go the the temple this week to be baptized for her sister. It is the sweetest thing and it makes me so grateful for temples and the perspective that they give us. This life is a speck of time! We have no need to fear anything in this life because we have a Savior who overcame everything so we don't have to be sad or have regrets for eternity. Man, I just love this gospel. It's kinda the best;)
We've done a lot of walking around trying to talk to people or knock a few doors that we feel drawn to and I've met a lot of cool people. Its almost overwhelming how many people there are in this world that I don't know. Like, I've met more people in the last year than I have my entire life. Its addicting getting to know strangers, but then it's hard leaving them. Transfers calls are this Saturday and I am 110% confident that I am leaving Hixson😥😔 this place has my heart, especially the ward. This will be my last full week here in Hixson/Soddy Daisy. I'm definitely gonna come back and visit.  I've been treated too well here❤️

I hope yall have a great week!! 🤟

Week 40

Not a lot happened this week, but it was supposed to be transfers, except for that I'm staying!! Side note, Sister Garbett's new companion (named sister Phillips) is SO awesome!! We actually have a lot in common and we have mutual friends from BYU and high school! Our little sisters are also so similar which is crazy, we both pulled up a picture and their outfits were almost the same hahaha.  But anyways, here are some cool things that I learned this week: --> Always always always follow promptings (if it's a good prompting, cuz if it's good, it's from God). Promptings are gateways for God to work miracles in our lives, but we have to act first. I'm still working on that, but I've seen it give me so much more confidence in the work I'm doing cuz I know that I'm not doing it alone:) --> Make friends and don't be afraid to share the gospel. When friendship comes first, sharing the gospel is a lot easier. That's one downfall with missionar...

Week 66

Hello everyone!! Happy late Easter! I hope everyone had an amazing Sunday, cuz I sure did!! Holidays on the mission are a little hard (for me at least), but this one was actually pretty good! The church service was amazing and it was PACKED. I felt like I was back in a Utah ward because there were so many people! Here are some reasons it was a great easter: Some friends we are teaching came to church! Donna who is a somewhat lonely older lady came and wore one of sister chan's dresses and she cried during the service and even sang one of the songs, which was huge. Donna is going through a lot right now, but I think she felt a moment of peace when she was at church.  Afterwards we went to the Gildays (a member that I'm close with ) to have lunch and a little scripture study. Isabel was there and that was fun hehe her and I are crazy. I don't know if I've "introduced" Isabel, but she is 19 and was just baptized in January. She moved here and almost i...

Week 74

Alrighty, here I am again. This was MIRACLE filled week. It had its ups and downs, but I'm going to focus on the ups! So first of all, the big miracle is James!!! This has got to be the most prepared person I have ever met on my entire mission! Not an exaggeration! I can't remember exactly what I've said about him in the past, so here's a little summary. We were walking around a neighborhood last Sunday after church and we decided to knock his door. He was really nice, so we came back on Tuesday to do a Bible study. Then we lost contact with him for the rest of the week. BUT he showed up to church on Sunday!!! We were so shocked!! Then he came to church AGAIN and he had read all the way up to Jacob, and he knew everything about the saints leaving to Utah, their history, everything about Joseph Smith and Emma Smith, and a bunch of other random facts! He said he knew Joseph Smith was called of God and he never wanted to stop coming to our church because he said it feels ...
